Submitting samples for microscopic examination

We are opening up for sample submission from anywhere in the USA for no cost while our project is ongoing. If you would like to submit a sample, please download, print, and complete the below Mulberry Sample Submission Form along with your sample.

Samples should include a 10” section of twig from the end of a branch that includes mature leaves. It’s extremely important to include the twig that the leaf is still attached to because we look at the petiole under the microscope. Leaves and twigs should be as flat as possible. At least 2-3 leaves is best.

Press leaves between 2 cardboard pieces (about 8.5” x 11”) with paper towel in between. Then insert into a paper/manila envelope. The 9” x 12” envelopes or larger work quite well. Please do not ship expedited, just regular shipping is fine since it may take a couple weeks to get to the samples.

PS - We encourage the use of TreeSnap for picture uploads if possible. This allows for other researches to gather data and information on trees for ongoing conservation efforts.
